WHY STAVE SHELLS?

Wood used to build stave shells is in a more natural form than ply drum shells or steam bent shells because the staves are solid -- no plies or stress from bending. The grain pattern is vertical which puts the bearing edge on the end grain rather than running parallel with the grain. This gives the edge more strength to stay true longer -- giving you better sounding drums longer.

Our standard woods are Rock Maple, Birch, Oak, Ash, Cherry, Black Walnut and Birds Eye Maple. Exotic woods are available such as Purple Heart, Bubinga, Cocobolo, Padauk, Zebrawood and many more. Stripes, Triple Stripes and shells made from multiple wood types are available as well. All shells are available in 3/8" and 1/2" thickness, select woods from 5/8" to 1 1/2".

Looking for the thin stave sound? Try our IRS (Integrated Reinforcement System) with a shell thickness of 5/16" and bearing edges at 1/2", you get the ring and tone of a thin drum, but the strength of thicker edges. Snares, Toms, Bass drums and raw stave shells for full drum kits are available in nearly all species including exotics. Tom Toms are available up to square sizes and Bass drums up to 22" x 18" deep. Custom thickness and length available on all shells.

Be sure to take advantage of our bearing edge and drilling services when buying a new shell and keep in mind we do offer all hardware as well!
